About the Midterm Exam

Dr. Carroll's midterm will consist of three parts:


Short Answer Questions

These questions test your understanding of the major concepts from lectures, eBook and projects one through five. The mechanics of software operation are not important - rather you should demonstrate your understanding of why you use one operation or another, when you would use them, etc. Each question can usually be answered in three or four thoughtful sentences. Cite examples where appropriate but don't rely only on examples - be explicit about what you think is important. Use the review sheet links to the projects as a study guide.


GIS Application Question (End-to-End Model)

The exam will also include one question testing your ability to design and implement a GIS application that covers all the work you've done to date. Use Review Project One to help you prepare for this part of the exam.


Hands-On Exam Problem

For the hands-on portion of the exam, you will use the software to solve a simple GIS problem that involves:
